This short film was made for Microsoft and is an interview between Elliot Jay Stocks and typography legend Erik Spiekermann. He is an incredibly fluent, elegant speaker, charmingly self-deprecating and hugely enthusiastic about his subject. It is easy to understand how he has assumed god-like status amongst graphic and particular typographic desingers.
His main point is that designing for a screen (of whatever size) is no different from designing on paper – you have to get a lot of complex content into a small space, using hierarchies that enable the reader to get to the essential elements with the minimum effort.
